A dark vision, poetry, existentialism and transsexuality. A reissue of the volume first published in 1983, around the outsiders of nocturnal Paris in the fifties and sixties — the women Strömholm lived among near Place Blanche and photographed over years, as one of them and not as a visitor.

The father of modern Swedish photography, born in 1918 and dead in 2002, still weighs on the whole Scandinavian and international scene. His work long disconcerted people, so hard was it to admit that a photographer could have drawn so much from the plastic worlds around him.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
