Son of the writer, painter, director and cultural organiser Cesare, Arturo Zavattini was a photographer as well as a camera operator and director of photography, working with important Italian and foreign directors. As a photographer he took part in the first expedition of the ethnologist Ernesto de Martino to Lucania, in 1952.
