“I photographed in order to understand.” Through her lens Lisetta Carmi lined up the history of the medium with her own present. Her language is clean, cutting and lucid, and she had the natural and instinctive ability to be always in the right place at the right moment: wherever there was a will to build a new world, founded on intelligence and on the recognition of individual freedoms, her lens was there.
