Observing the humanized landscape helps us understand the economy, power, history, community life, culture, and the human soul. We observe it live, we imagine it in the words of writers or in cartographic representations, we smile at it when looking at postcards, we admire it in paintings, films, or images online. But what can truly teach us to interpret the landscape's complexity are photographs. The writings collected in this volume are the result of a careful selection from a much larger body of work, and they testify to the author's commitment over time.

They date from 1983 to 2024 and represent forty years of historical-critical studies, reflections on possible interpretations of territories undergoing transformation in relation to themes of identity and memory, collective working hypotheses, and even hopes—sadly lost, given the unfortunate fate of the landscape we live in today, dragged into an unstoppable process of humanization, fueled by a rapid and destructive global economy.
