Two of Nobuyoshi Araki's Arakinema slide-projection performances brought into book form, worked directly from the 140 original slides. Nudes and portraits alternate with street scenes and flowers, much of the imagery drawn from the 1980s underground magazine Shashin Jidai. "Blue Period" removes colour by chemical bleaching — an act of subtraction, the past — while "Last Summer" adds colour, an act of addition, the future. A fresh look at a hidden, cinematic part of Araki's oeuvre.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
