111 portraits of people across Japan made by Takashi Homma between 2002 and the present. Spanning all generations and a wide range of occupations, the project trains the care usually reserved for cultural icons on ordinary, anonymous individuals. Photographed in familiar urban settings with quiet intensity and empathy, the portraits offer a grounded, humanistic picture of contemporary Japanese identity, in the tradition of socially engaged portraiture.
