A catalogue for the exhibition Nobuyoshi Araki: Vintage Prints, held at Taka Ishii Gallery New York in April 2018 with Alison Bradley Projects and published by Dashwood in cooperation with the gallery. It reproduces in full all 21 vintage prints on show, spanning the first two decades of Araki's career, from the early 1970s, after he left advertising, to 1990, with images from series such as LIFE (later retitled Tokyo, in Autumn), Pseudo-Diary, Tokyo Story and The First Year of HEISEI. The selection moves between the architecture of the city and intimate subjects such as portraits of his wife Yoko and his cat, intertwining life and death, and reaches 1990, the year of Yoko's death, after the death of the Emperor Hirohito in 1989. The pages show women in stockings and in the nude, a portrait of a young woman with a fringe and still lifes of flowers in white vases, with the date stamps left on the prints.
