Three bullet holes pierce the book from front to back

Dedicated to Bruce LaBruce's archive of rarely published or previously unpublished work marked by morbid fascinations, this second Death Book gathers performances, actions, film production stills and photographs that challenge the viewer to look beneath the veneer of Western society. It brings the material together for the first time, with archival pieces never exhibited before from projects including Hustler White, Otto; or Up with Dead People and L.A. Zombie. Edited as loosely connected vignettes of horror in which carnage is accelerated rather than overcome, it questions existing values, hierarchies and perceptions of good and evil. Faces and body parts of actors and artists appear, among them Francois Sagat, Tiger Tyson, Tony Ward, Kembra Pfahler, Slava Mogutin, Ron Athey, Genesis P-Orridge and Lady Jaye, Dash Snow, Brad Renfro and Asia Argento, with LaBruce himself. Art director Max Siedentopf designed the book as a paraphrase of the Bible.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
