Four photographers, Céline Clanet, François Deladerrière, Géraldine Lay and Geoffroy Mathieu, with a text by Michel Poivert, chose to bring their work together after observing not a community of gaze or theme but a common distance and acuity with which each of them apprehends the world. Un mince vernis de réalité was built simultaneously with the emergence of a new French photography in recent years. The wish of these four photographers to present their work together expresses, in a transversal way, the questioning of young authors across a whole field of contemporary photography. A deep silence reigns in these photographs, in which one ends up distinguishing densities, intensities. It is probably we who then come into resonance with this silence.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
