From the text by Patrick Manac'h: "I sensed that Jean-Pierre Evrard was not scrutinising his memory, not ploughing a field lost in memories. He provided a delicate journey bathed in poetry and an irresistible inclination towards others at their best, a passionate and overflowing taste for being infinitely contemporary. It comes from very far. Jean-Pierre never adopted the posture of the master. What characterises him is the assurance of a gaze intimately linked to a deep, generous, Christian respect for the experiments of others. Meeting has always been one of his greatest pleasures, and with him the act of knowledge manifests each time as a moment of light, freeing each image from the local and draping it in the universal. I had the happiness of going through the dozens of boxes where his prints are methodically classified, a goldsmith's classification. Each sheet laid on the flat of the hand is a happiness of the senses: the paper has been chosen, the selenium dusts, the greys are treated powerfully. And in these boxes are also the albumen prints of Tlemcen, the glass plates of Cambodia, the portraits of Cavilla, the exchanges bringing the gift to the highest happiness of dialoguing with other photographers: Edouard Boubat, Willy Ronis, Bernard Plossu, Claude Dityvon, Luc Choquer or Marie-Paule Nègre, to name only his favourites."
