This book gathers the testimonies of photographers and residency directors: Israel Ariño, Fred Boucher, François Cheval, Rémi Coignet, Patrick Delat, Chantal Delmont, Pascal Dolémieux, Fany Dupêchez, Gilles Favier, Philippe Guionie, Elisabeth Hebert, Mat Jacob, Ida Jakobs, Olivia Marsaud, Brigitte Patient, Fabienne Pavia, Rita Scaglia and Jérôme Mother. What is a photographic residency? What place does this mode of creation occupy in France today? Documenting the territory: which photography for which stakes, and which experiences for photographers? This national symposium sets out to answer these questions. Gathered for the first time, nine artistic directors, but also publishers and photographers, testify and compare their respective experiences, as an inventory of the photographic residency in France and a portrait, in outline, of territories and their inhabitants. The symposium was held in the auditorium of the Musée des Abattoirs in Toulouse, where the programme Résidence 1+2, organised by Philippe Guionie, was launched on 10 October: a new residency programme that proposes to multiply crossed views between different photographers and European cities. The study day brought together heads of art centres and museums, photographers (Mat Jacob of Tendance Floue, Ida Jakobs and Israel Ariño of VU) and publishers, and the twenty-five guests each testified to the diversity of the actions carried out throughout the country.
