Guillaume Zuili is the first artist invited to discover the Perche. The stay let him return to his origins and approach the French landscape, which he had never really had the chance to photograph, having spent his life abroad. Guided by the charm of the countryside and forests of the Perche, he created a body of about a hundred images with a singular and mysterious approach that goes beyond the usual clichés of this picturesque territory. Beyond the landscape, he forged ties with many inhabitants, whose secret paths he followed, with whom he shared good times and even made portraits, twelve of which joined the collection of the Écomusée du Perche. The unexpected presence of Pierre Collier, a great friend and lover of images who came to live in the Perche to write, finds an ideal receptacle in this book. Their exchanges are articulated through the sagacity of their looks and the humanity whose ironic traits, chances of life and off-frame they dissect with delight. Every grain of light is engraved in these subtle prints and meets, page after page, the savoury pearls of P. Collier. Christine Ollier

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
