In 2023 Elsa and Johanna discovered the Perche during their Capsule residency, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and the DRAC Normandie. This summer they present their new series Séquences in the cathedral barn of the Moulin Blanchard, with a dozen staged scenarios comprising about fifty images. They explored the beauty of the Perche landscape in spring 2023 before returning in summer to shoot. Their narrative and meticulous approach, far from the documentary, carefully integrates sets, props and compositions in which they stage themselves. For the first time their work makes the landscape a central element, turning nature into an actor in their compositions. They inventoried and used the diversity of the Perche landscapes, agricultural, wooded and hilly, and the summer light to create pop sequences full of mystery. Their overflowing imagination transfigured these landscapes into a captivating, evocative fresco that mixes pop aesthetics and a crime-thriller mood.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
