In 2021 and 2022 Anne Rearick spent several months in the Perche among its inhabitants, animals and landscapes; her photographs depict the everyday experience of the worlds she immerses herself in and celebrates with delicacy. Free of any all-embracing project, she lets each person express themselves in turn through looks, poses and gestures, and renews a deeply humanist photography that goes toward the other as an equal rather than seeking ego or identity (Christian Caujolle). In the United States, South Africa, the Basque Country, Sète and the Perche alike, she brings the same generous gaze to people, capturing images that express above all the pleasure of the moment and the quality of the encounter. Complementing the photographs, Rémi Coignet, a connoisseur of American photography, holds a long conversation with the artist. Working on long-term subjects in the documentary tradition, she focuses on daily life and rural life, magnifying the banal and erasing brands and logos that would distract from the authenticity of her narrative, and explores the notion of community, central to her work.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
