Three residency projects. Almudena Romero, The Museum of Plant Art: she is interested in the relationship between plant and animal, and in the little-known experience of pollinators. Some flowers, such as wild orchids, deploy specific and complex strategies to attract bees, made of olfactory, auditory and visual elements. Her photographs reveal that the pollen of some flowers shines, as we use glitter when we seek to attract someone. Téo Becher, Emmêlement et autres histoires de forêts: his questions take root in the incessant opposition between nature and culture, and the photographer includes in his approach a crucial stake, the impact of human activity on the landscape. Setting out to discover the mountains and forests of Occitanie, he aims to analyse the perception of what we call nature and the concrete consequences of that perception, inviting us to rethink our view of our environment and to make it more complex. Marion Ellena, Tu te souviens de la couleur de ma chambre ?: she explores the plasticity of memories through the materiality of photography, starting from smartphone images subjected to processes of alteration that fix her memories while revealing their fragility. The artist collects "orphan" photographs found in recycling shops and flea markets, transforming and reinterpreting them to define the contours of a shared intimacy.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
