They are called Jeany, Jean-Paul, Marie-Alice, Nicole, Ginette, Titi, Bernie, Coco, Brigitte, Daniel and Ryad. They have the age of the heart, counted not in decades but in ever-renewing springs. They are the heroes of Letizia Le Fur, guest of the ninth residency in Vichy. With the gingham check as backdrop, this artist who works her photographic palette like a painter has gridded the town and portrayed cheerful seniors. In front of her lens they have freed their fantasy, donning the vitamin-bright outfits of the virtuoso pianist or the femme fatale, the dancer or the dandy. Through their eccentricity they even give colour back to the places they take over: opera house, thermal baths, church, cultural centre. Sure that "happiness abolishes old age" (Franz Kafka), Le Fur has redrawn the contours of a fanciful world in which, for better or worse, the lightness of living finds expression.
