Pur-Sang (thoroughbred) immediately evokes a story of horses, selection, training and competition: that of a closed, secret milieu which, through its rituals and know-how, organises selection, training and competition, and on the green baize of the racecourse the dice are thrown in a flash: a horse wins and, replaying this scene of jubilation, becomes so famous that the mere mention of its name makes it a deity. […] Klavdij Sluban puts the main weight of his attention on this tension and is thus led to the strongest point of his aesthetic: black and white reinforces "the flash", the lightning of the race to come, a race become mythological; never has his black carried so many promises. Diana Lui plays at sidestepping this tension; she lets herself be surprised by her own attention, a test that must have stimulated her artistic research, and tries to escape the tension by negotiating sidesteps that punctuate the path she invents. T. Dumanoir (extracts).
