This artist's book contains a set of photographs of drawings and writings in which the author tries to find the link between elements of different nature, confronting their networks of forms and movements with those, more deeply buried, of force, energy and meaning. Piece number one (the jetty): black-and-white photographs, mixed reproduction technique, driftwood, thread, stone. "I am today like these ensembles, provisional and unstable aggregates. I try to find the link between elements of different nature, to confront their networks of form and movement with those, more buried, of force, energy, meaning. Each part reveals something of the whole, without the whole necessarily being the logical sum of the parts. I decide to trust sensations rather than thoughts, and so I observe the figures that build up, the materials that respond to one another: they seem to obey singular rules of elective affinities. Connections that at first seem uncertain often prove powerful." A. B.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
