"The sky is high, the earth is low; only the table and the bed are at the right height." The discovery of this anonymous proverb set everything off. Inspiration always appears without warning, clinging to some small thing that resonates in us and urging us down a path of creation that did not exist before. The Mignardises project was born of this delicious little phrase, which embodies a very French, vaguely disenchanted existential stance that admits the trivial nature of the human condition, halfway between gods and beasts, and invites us to enjoy it simply, at human height. Shown at Galerie Le 29 during the International Festival of Culinary Photography in Paris and at the launch of Radical Dining Society in England in 2012, then at Galerie Le Triton in Les Lilas and at Bé2M in Nantes in 2013, the series has also appeared in magazines such as Raw Photo and Regards. The book brings this jubilant compilation, which allies the salt of wit with the pepper of the flesh, to its conclusion.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
