An atypical, unclassifiable photographer, Bernard Plossu has traced his solitary path since the early 1960s, on the margins of reportage, art photography and fashion, "to be", he says, "on equal footing with the world and what happens in it". From 1987 and for some fifteen years he walked the desert expanses of southern Spain, this new "garden of dust" extending his earlier expeditions into the American and Saharan deserts: emptiness, silence nourished by clarity and fertile wandering, solitude, a confrontation with nature's extreme rhythms as an initiatory journey he films and photographs like a natural symphony.
