Julie Ganzin made this project for the City of Lorient on La Glacière, a 1920s structure still standing on the fishing port, extracting from the territory's contemporary reality a hybridisation of the gaze on landscape as both environmental and behavioural zone. This artist's book does not erase the organic activity of this concrete monster, its neural and digestive labyrinth, in favour of indifference or affection, distance or habit, depending on the residents' own gaze, the artist seeking balance on the book's edge with the cutting edge of black-and-white and colour photography.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
