The series La chute stages the weightless bodies of hip-hop, capoeira and contemporary dancers, a "fall of the angel" of the 2000s, taut with tension and energy between sky and earth. Just after the 2005 suburban riots, between gravity and weightlessness, Denis Darzacq made photographs suspended in generic, working-class architecture, drawn to how, in the age of Photoshop, photography can still surprise and bear witness to real, unmanipulated instants, creating baroque images of levitating bodies in housing estates and asking what becomes of that energy, of bodies wanting to assert themselves that risk crashing to the ground if we let them fall. A decade earlier, during the Gulf War, the artist had shot a reportage on Algerian dancers that first drew him to these visions of suspended youth.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
