Travelling the planet, Jacques Borgetto observes the signs and forms reality playfully offers him, restoring them in a mosaic of images whose cut-style montage reveals unexpected correspondences: a black girl in a white dress carrying flowers echoing waves rolling over rocks, beach games beside a country chapel, a television aerial beside a birdcage, a mother sheltering her child under an umbrella beside an anonymous town square seen through glass. Having traded the heavy 4x5 camera for the lightness of a mobile phone, the globetrotting photographer bets on the instantaneity of what suddenly appears rather than on the apparatus that constructs a beautiful image.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
