Two notebooks in one volume. The first, Isabelle Huppert, is a rare encounter: a towering figure of French cinema who has been photographed by the greatest names, here captured off guard by Bernard Plossu, escaping pose and convention to become a fleeting silhouette, a free presence, an actress of the instant, with an accompanying text by Dominique Païni describing her as a fugitive, Baudelairean passer-by. The second, Pauline Croze – Une visite à La Ciotat, grew from Plossu's wish to meet the singer whose music accompanies his family life, a day improvised under a cloudy sky that became, in his words, a silent song and a two-voice diary.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
