Issue 17 explores the hidden dimensions of the image, the technical and fiduciary infrastructures that support its production, circulation and impact, focusing on how digital and algorithmic shifts turn the image into a total, omnipresent visual environment resting on both digital and conceptual infrastructures. The issue returns to Walter Benjamin through artist-theorist Victor Burgin, with further contributions from Colette Tron, Cédric Mazet Zaccardelli, Claire Fagnart and Siobhan Angus, plus artistic contributions from Pierre-Olivier Arnaud, Simon Starling and James Benning.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
