Through her images, Dolorès Marat proposes different, sensitive and at times inhuman universes, seizing the instant of varied everyday moments; the title Illusion reflects her fascination with the world of funfairs and the magic hidden behind certain figures, trees and objects. As critic Michel Guerrin writes in Le Monde, every image works on the same principle, inviting the viewer to imagine multiple fictions and scenarios as ghostly figures emerge from the night among discarded, sometimes crude, decorative fragments that Marat surprises, diverts and reclaims, transforming them with skill into magical, unreal photographs that flirt with eternity.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
