The city has mutated, but our representations and practices have not yet caught up. Can we still call "peri-urban" what is in fact simply the contemporary city: a network of car-dependent continuities, housing developments, energy connections, water and food supply, airport hubs, zones and leisure parks? Only by observing the city from its centre to its furthest edges, the photographer argues, can one properly analyse the full spectrum of its interactions with soil, vegetation and the biosphere, an invitation to think, practise and build the city differently.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
