Denise Colomb undertook two major reportages in Martinique, Guadeloupe and Haiti, in 1948 and 1958. The first trip had been initiated by Aimé Césaire, who entrusted her with her very first commission, inviting her to join the commemorations of the centenary of the abolition of slavery in the Antilles.
