A hundred and seventeen black and white pictures made in the south of Italy, gathered for the exhibition L'archivio della memoria in Turin in the summer of 1980, with an introduction by Goffredo Fofi and a text by the author. The volume sets out the idea that gives it its title: the picture understood as a deposit of collective memory, in which domestic interiors, objects and the people who made and used them are held together as the record of a culture.
