An architect by training, Basilico (Milan, 1944-2013) imposed from the 1970s his style and the originality of his investigation of urban space. His photographic campaigns, which took him around the world for almost forty years, are exemplary of his method: whatever the city or landscape, he reads its structures, its lines of force, its historical and cultural layers. A true tool of knowledge and understanding of the world, his work also reads as an extraordinary poetics of the gaze. At the end of the volume a dialogue between Giovanna Calvenzi and Christian Caujolle comments on the images, highlighting the features of his style and telling the stories behind his famous pictures.
