First Italian translation
Lampi series

The first book by the French artist and writer to be translated into Italian. A work in progress unlike any other, it came out in France in 1994 and has been regularly reprinted in enriched and reworked versions; it presents the short texts and the images its author has collected over time as a very particular intimate diary. It is a small summa of her work, a notebook of her life made of thoughts, recollections and encounters where, for each short text, an image completes the fragment of existence she wishes to share: memories of childhood, the relation with her parents and with her husband, thoughts, unusual experiences, irreverent games, humour and melancholy. Her notebook of existence is rich in anecdote, in depth and in amusement. With this work she brings the private world of the artist into the public context of art, redefining in some way the very notion of fiction; in precise, plain language, at times light and at times grave, the stories she tells trace the path of an uncommon woman and artist, used to moving where invention and truth intertwine. Since the late seventies she has developed autobiographical fictions matched with pictures, playing with every possible combination of word and image, of the real and the staged.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
