If Peter Hujar's monochrome portraits have always carried a certain intimacy, it is the photographer's own that Peter Hujar's Day enters. In 1974 Linda Rosenkrantz asked her dear friend to write down everything he did on 18 December; the following day the two met at her flat on 94th Street and went through those notes in more detail. Published by Magic Hour Press, the volume sets out that conversation, revealed to the public forty-seven years after it was recorded, and with it an hour-by-hour picture of a working artist's ordinary day in New York.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
