Les Carnets du BAL is a series set up to work on what is at stake in the contemporary image and to take the notion of the visual document in all its variety. Each subject brings together theoretical contributions and presentations and readings of works by artists, philosophers, historians, anthropologists and critics, drawing on examples from photography, video and cinema. Thirteen new contributions on what an image can do, by Dork Zabunyan, François Boespflug, Agnès Devictor, Emmanuelle André, Giovanni Careri, Jacques Aumont, Thomas Hirschhorn, Ada Ackerman, Bruno Serralongue, Eyal Weizman, Pierre Cassou-Noguès, Eric Baudelaire and Cyril Béghin. From the seminar held at the EHESS in October 2012.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
