A remarkable figure in the history of Japanese photography, little known in France: Yasuhiro Ishimoto (1921-2012). A key name of the 1950s and 1960s, he came to be called visually bilingual for his ability to join the formal approach of the New Bauhaus to the essence of Japanese aesthetics, photographing the city of Chicago and Japan. In those same years he opened new ways of conceiving the photographic book with Someday, Somewhere (1958), one of the most important publications in Japanese history, whose graphic design, experimental for its time, would greatly influence a young generation of photographers and designers.
