Les Carnets du BAL is a series set up to work on what is at stake in the contemporary image and to take the notion of the visual document in all its variety. Each subject brings together theoretical contributions and presentations and readings of works by artists, philosophers, historians, anthropologists and critics, drawing on examples from photography, video and cinema. The ninth volume is about the image without the human: what is left when the human figure, the human viewpoint or the human maker is taken out, with contributions from Thomas Schlesser, Yves Sarfati, Bernie Krause and Marielle Macé among others.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
