The book brings together the stories of eight women who were born and grew up during the presidency of T. G. Masaryk and went on to live through the turbulent twentieth century, and part of the present one, with all its upheavals and changes. Against the background of great historical events they studied, worked, married, suffered the injustices of the communist regime and violence in marriage, coped with the loss of children and loved ones and made difficult life decisions. Their stories were recorded by the writer Jana Poncarová and the photographer Dita Pepe, who also worked with each woman's period photographic archive.
