The work is divided into twelve chapters

A body of work that holds the atmosphere of Venice while staying far from the usual tourist imagery of gondolas and reflections on the water. Salbitani builds a sequence of enveloping emotions using the logic of dreams and of recollection, trying to give back the deep structure and the invisible depths of a city he knew first as a traveller from 1971 and then as an inhabitant between 1976 and 1985. The work goes back to the negatives of those years and carries on to 2007, divided into twelve chapters and accompanied by two short texts by the author: in a crowded field of often banal illustration, it proposes a city that had not been seen before.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
