The volume is divided into four chapters devoted to the sea, the city, the countryside and the heights. For the project the maker, an architect by training, always used a shift lens, the kind normally employed for architectural work.

Each recomposed view is made by taking twelve frames in sequence on the spot, varying the shift at every exposure; afterwards he brings all the frames together by superimposing them, so that the resulting picture is wider than any single one of them.
