Walter Rosenblum (1919-2006) was a leading presence for more than half a century. The volume explores his life, his work and the historic events he recorded, offering a full view of his contribution.

Direct experience of the conditions of immigrants in America shaped his empathetic approach and his commitment to social justice from an early age. As an active member of the Photo League he recorded many of the pressing matters of his time, from the turbulent years of the Great Depression to the bloody realities of the Second World War, and later returned to the neighbourhoods and communities he knew.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
