Giorgio Casali (1913-1995) is a central figure in the last century's history of the medium in Italy. From 1951 to the mid-eighties, for more than thirty years, he was the man who portrayed the country's leading architects and designers.

His long collaboration with the international magazine Domus makes him a witness of the years when Italy was crossed by the wave of modernisation, a period marked by strong enthusiasm for new ways of living, for the rising market of mass consumption, and for the public and private architectural changes that shaped new settings. The subtitle refers to the construction of that double landscape.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
