The series, titled after the Latin word for shadow, was commissioned by the Nederlands Fotomuseum. In this unusual publication, a folder containing a booklet of poems alongside the plates, the ambiguity between realism and abstraction that is characteristic of the artist emerges in the play of light, shadow and colour, in the cropping of the pictures and in the interventions made on the prints, giving the whole a mysterious quality.
