In the paths of her restless and questioning gaze, Elaine Pessoa articulates research strategies in which an extemporaneous aim seeks to reconcile on the same surface the here and the elsewhere, the present and memory, the seen and the fabled, the frame and what lies outside it. A picture does not fit into a picture, her work seems to tell us all the time; her works are therefore what she calls stumbles in the failure of the medium. Using images found in second-hand bookshops, the artist fabulates what is outside the frame, creating a poetic charge of high voltage.
