In 2021 Mario Lalau chose to leave the big cities. He adopted a van and the roads as his home, heading for remote places: a nomadic experience of turning inward, accompanied only by Cairu, his dog, who once roamed aimlessly through the streets of São Paulo. Cairu — house of the sun, in the Tupi language — when taken in by the photographer, taught him the freedom and the awareness of existence that can be reached through wandering. The wandering dog then became the book. According to the author, it is the transcription in images of an inner crossing, seen as the transforming power of the experience of living. Seeking the recognition of the sacred in nature, it proposes an essential return to other ways of seeing, feeling and knowing worlds, inspired by the cosmovisions, knowledge and mythologies of ancestral peoples.
