Made between 1991 and 2018, these pictures open the life of a woman of this century. Born in the nineteen eighties, Scheynius has recorded without let-up the scenes of her life, her friends, her loves, on film. Between 2007 and 2019 she arranged that intimate archive into eleven self-published volumes that were widely admired; against a background of social media and the digital self she holds to a sensitivity of rare intensity, gathered here in full for the first time and revised, edited and designed by her.

“With their pale, washed-out colours, these glancing images often seem to use light as a veil between the viewer and the subject, or, on the contrary, as a luminous haze that envelops both the gaze and what it seeks out — in either case emphasising atmosphere over fact. Scheynius is not documenting her life, it seems, so much as already recollecting it in the very present in which it is lived.” — Barry Schwabsky

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
