Published for the exhibition organised for the twentieth anniversary of 11 September 2001, the book is a celebration of the city and its people.

It presents thirty-five colour pictures portraying New York before the attack, made between 1984 and 1998 and marked by a sense of aching immediacy and timeless elegance — images that recall a city that was, whose instantly recognisable skyline was irreparably altered by the tragedy that came a few years later. The volume is not, however, a nostalgic nod to that past: the pictures are a homage and a memory, but first of all a celebration.
