The volume explores the iconography of the mountain through the work of four masters: the American maker and campaigner Ansel Adams, with his celebrated black-and-white pictures of the national parks; the Peruvian Martín Chambi, one of the first important indigenous makers of South America, whose Andes are a mirror of ethnographic and historical record; Vittorio Sella, at work between the last decades of the nineteenth century and the first of the twentieth in the Alps and in Asia, Africa and North America; and a portfolio by Axel Hütte, commissioned by the Fondazione Brescia Musei and given to the Alps around Brescia.
