The result of a collaboration between the Magnum Foundation and the World Monuments Fund, it sets out the complicated and reciprocal relation between people — above all local communities — and the monuments and landscapes they shape. Each frame is a sedimentation of times and points of view: those of the monuments that bear witness to history, those of the communities that look after them, and that of the photographer. It also warns of the threats those places face.
