Other Animals is the sequel to Elliot Ross's earlier volume of animal portraits. Approaching his subjects more closely, across many species, he continues examining his thoughts and feelings about being an animal in a world with other animals: the wonder and the beauty, as well as the unease.

He studies the similarities and differences between species, their textures, physiques and apparent physiognomies, while using free-hand drawing techniques he has developed within digital imaging. The result is a group of strikingly sculptural black and white portraits that are at once made with a lens and drawn.

“A series of sleek and flawless portraits of expressive and evidently emotional creatures.”

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
