Crows Ascending is dedicated to the memory of Elliot Ross's younger brother Michael, who had a profound intellectual disability caused by lifelong epilepsy and who survived a severe case of Covid-19 in 2020 only to die of Parkinson's-related pneumonia months later. It is also dedicated to the millions of others who suffered or died in the United States, many of them through government inaction.

Only a small selection of the very best frames was used for this exquisitely produced volume, designed and published as an artist's-book-like publication though with a normal print run.

“A very moving and quietly passionate remembrance of his brother's, and so many others', passing. The metaphor of earthly escape is powerful.” — Barbara Tannenbaum

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
