Global Visions marks forty years of FotoFest, the pioneering international biennial started in Houston in 1986 with a belief in the image as a shared, democratic language. Drawing on twenty biennials, the volume brings together more than three hundred and fifty pages of work spanning over a century and a half, from early analogue practice to today's expanded and digital forms.
The selection reflects artists' responses to their worlds, engaging identity, migration, memory, conflict, environment and everyday life across cultures and geographies. Essays by the co-founder Wendy Watriss, the curator Mark Sealy and the executive director Steven Evans frame it through personal reflection, critical inquiry and institutional history.
